I carry pencils, pencils and a sketchbook everywhere I go.
I never know when I will want to jot down my thoughts or quickly sketch out an idea.
Over the years I have definitely grown my drawing skills but I still know there are so many fundamentals I have yet to grasp and include in my art.
When I was studying about the life of Van Gogh I found it fascinating that he practiced his sketching for years…truly years…before he even began using oil paints.
As I was reading and studying his history of practicing I loved seeing how his years of mark making in drawing actually defined his style in painting!
I am honored by the high quality of teachers that share their gifts on my creative network.
This coming Tuesday is the launch of the two week course Sketchworks {drawing with confidence}.
Artist Angie Redhead will lead you in exploring, understanding and practicing the art of sketching.
Here is a peek into the two week course…
- Leonardo da Vinci
The old masters were skilled draftsmen. Having a good understanding of logical art allowed them to deviate from the rules in their own way and create masterpieces.
In this two week online class, we will show you the drawing tools needed to improve and confidently take your art to the next level.
During the first week, we will take you through perspective, the parts of a landscape and how perspective relates to portraiture.
We will also cover the various methods of shading, finding the light source and illustrating highlights.
For week two, we will take an in depth look at the anatomy of the head, it’s proportions, bone structure, muscles and facial planes in order to understand where shadows and features should fall in a portrait.
